I’m sorry if I haven’t blogged for a long time. It’s been an extremely busy couple of months. Apologies! I owe you guys some stories.
M and I went book shopping last weekend and it was the BEST DAY EVER (or evur)! I don’t think we’ve done that before. M was in a young adult phase, and I picked up a couple of recommendations. My sis is reading one of those, so I’d probably just borrow her copy. Haha #cheap
Anyway, everything started when the Fully Booked twirur page (aka Lucy Girl) posted a picture with copies of the new Lisbeth Salander/Millenium series book. I asked Lucy Girl if it’s available already in the Philippines and it is! Oh joy!
Backgrounder: I absolutely love Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Series (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest). I consider it as among my most favorite series, second only to Harry Potter, I guess. That’s all you need to know about that.
Anyway, I asked Lucy Girl to transfer the two copies (one for me and one for M) to the Trinoma branch, probably the most accessible branch to me (Well, SM Megamall branch is the most accessible to me, but because of INC stuff happening in EDSA-Shaw, I didn’t dare). However, Lucy Girl told me that transfer would take five to seven days.
Side note: FULLY BOOKED GATEWAY PLEASE COME BACK TO US!!!!!
So, I just decided to go to their The Fort branch in BGC myself (or is that ‘their BGC branch in The Fort’? I have nooo idea), where there are copies readily available.
Field trip! Field Trip!
Side note: I live very far from BGC.
Well, I don’t want to go to BGC myself, so I asked M to go with me + Lunch!
Originally, I reserved both the Lisbeth novel and Harper Lee’s novel. But when I was there, I couldn’t limit my purchase to just two. Damn you, Fully Booked *shakes fist*!
So I bought four and spent a little more than my budget. Argh. I was supposed to buy more books, but you know, poverty. R is also selling some of his books dirt cheap, and I opted to hoard some from him, so I have six more books on my to-read list. Argh! Plus, Manila International Book Fair is coming. ARGHHH!!!!
Here are my loots from last weekend’s visit to the awesome Fully Booked branch:
Sharp Objects (Gillian Flynn)
I just finished Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places, and I liked it. My minor obsession with Gone Girl made me read Dark Places, and now my minor obsession with Gone Girl and Dark Places made me buy Sharp Objects.
I loved how wicked and dark Flynn’s characters are, but I hated both the ending of her novels. I hope Sharp Object’s ending is more acceptable for my taste, though.
Si (Bob Ong)
FINALLY! I’ve been trying to get my hands on this book for a LOOONG time now, you have no idea. I am a big Bob Ong fan, I absolutely loved the evolution of his writing style. It was just utterly frustrating how his new book is not readily available like his other books. UTTERLY FRUSTRATING.
So, I am so happy with this purchase. FREAKING FINALLY!
Go Set A Watchman (Harper Lee)
To Kill a Mockingbird is among my most favorite books of all time.
The controversy surrounding the publication of Go Set a Watchman – the setting of which is years after the events of To Kill a Mocking Bird – almost made me NOT want to buy the book.
But I think I’ll regret it if I wouldn’t read this. Let’s see.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web (A Lisbeth Salander Novel; David Lagercrantz)
This is what made me go to that faraway land which is BGC. I read rave reviews of the book, even if the writer of this one is not Stieg Larsson.
Like the Harper Lee novel, publication of this book also has some story behind it. But I LOVE Lisbeth Salander and it would kill me if I skip reading this one. I am soo excited to have my nose on this, however I have to re-read the last book first to refresh my memory.
I’m starting off with the shortest, Si by Bob Ong. FINALLY!
